Private Practice doctors like Dr. Shelley are gravitating towards a “Cash-Based” system of payment for their services eliminating the traditional route of taking insurance. There are many reasons for doing so. However the number one reason is that this builds better relationships between doctor and patient.
Doctors that have insurance as an option have been told that they have to see “1 patient every 11 minutes which may mean that only 12-17% of the work day is spent with the actual patient”. The rest of the day is spent on paperwork, assessing data, inserting data and more. With Dr. Shelley’s “Cash-Based” system in place, she has the freedom to see patients when and for however long she wants. Dr. Shelley spends more time giving quality care to her patients including more comprehensive treatment plans.
In addition, “ Cash-Based” doctors have flexibility with their schedules and transparency with pricing. Most doctors can’t make same-day appointments or even next-day appointments. As a patient you have more chances to see your doctor without having to wait weeks to see your doctor for a simple check up. As for pricing transparency, most insurance companies can bar hospitals from publicly disclosing their pricing. With private practice doctors they can disclose pricing so each customer knows what they’re paying before any procedure is done.
If you still have doubts about paying for each service and the “Cash-Based” system, patients may apply for CareCredit. CareCredit is a credit card that allows patients to pay for any medical needs on a monthly basis. Additionally, Dr. Shelley can provide patients with procedure numbers, which can be submitted to your insurance company after the service is completed.
